Brian Cullen

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

My training and experience in psychotherapy and trauma informed practitioner mean that I’ve learned how to support people find ways to become the kind of person they want to be, and because I work collaboratively, they can do this in whatever way they choose, and feel comfortable with, so as to create the life they want.

In therapy, the client is the expert in their own life, it’s just that dealing with so many of life’s challenges means it can be hard to believe that, to see the way forward, or make it work out how you want. Many people reach a stage where they aren’t sure what they want, or feel that the life they’re living isn’t who they are anymore, and it can be disturbing because they don’t know how to move forward, closer to what they might want, or even how to find it. I provide a safe and equal, collaborative and skilled space where I work with you, the client, to unravel whatever has been causing difficulties, to identify your truly individual needs or wants, and find ways to achieve these things. Some people may have practical goals, others want a greater sense of self-acceptance, or to understand things more, or come with terms with things, and feel stronger - truly, everyone is different.

So, as a therapist, the aim is quite simple; I help people become who they want to be. The key is to have this space as somewhere just for you, with a safe, skilled, non-judgmental therapist on your side, with no agenda except to support you. Sometimes, therapy is the only space we get to do this. I integrate humanistic counselling, such as person-centred therapy, existential therapy, reality therapy to more cognitive changing techniques such as CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I helped people dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, professional burn-out, addiction, suicide ideation, and trauma.

As with all therapists, I am professionally trained and fully accredited with the IACP, whose code of ethics I abide by, and I attend regular professional supervision to ensure that I am working in the best way possible.
